Books for Love

 

On October 8th 2015 at 7 pm, hosted at the same spot (Jack Adams' Hall), the Beta Phi Sisters will be hosting Starlight Show. The sisters have been hosting this event for at least a decade and have been giving all their proceeds to the Books for Love project. With their constant support and also the generosity of many other individuals, we've made a difference in the lives of hundreds of school children. I'd like to take this opportunity to look back over the years and send a heartfelt thank you for all the support. Good luck on this year's Starlight Show sisters.

I'm not blind. I'm not oblivious. I'm not naive. I'm not cold. I'm not idealistic. I'm not a dreamer... What I do realize, what I know with all certainty is that I don't know anything and what I do know is never enough.

In fact, I do see. I see the suffering but choose to focus on the positive instead. I'm not oblivious to others and because of this I look into strangers' eyes and welcome them with a smile. I'm not naive but I do tend to see the good in people first. I'm not cold, the truth is I feel too much at times. I'm not idealistic, but would like to try to make "my" world better, any way I can. I'm not a dreamer, though I do see that life can be something beautiful and magical.

BUT with all the suffering, negativity, and pure ugliness around us, what is there? We can discuss the Syrian war, the economic decline of Brazil, or the prevalence of violence in the U.S., but do I really know enough to have something worthwhile to say?

I'm not going to be preachy and tell you what to do. But this is what I do. I focus on the positive and I find ways, big and small to bring joy to others. And by some chance, that old nagging feeling creeps up on me, the one  that says, "You can do more". I acknowledge it and answer back, "It's just a matter of time."

Eu não sou um sonhador, mas eu vejo que a vida pode ser algo bonito e mágico.Mas com todo o sofrimento, a negatividade, e feiúra pura em torno de nós, o que há? Podemos discutir a guerra síria, o declínio econômico do Brasil, ou a prevalência da violência em os EUA, mas eu realmente sei o suficiente para ter algo interessante a dizer?Eu não vou ser enfadonho e dizer-lhe o que fazer. Mas isso é o que eu faço. Eu foco no positivo e eu encontrar formas, grandes e pequenos para trazer alegria aos outros. E por algum acaso, aquela sensação incômoda de idade rasteja acima em mim, aquele que diz: "Você pode fazer mais". Eu reconhecê-lo e responder de volta, "É apenas uma questão de tempo.""Não importa em que os eventos facção ter colocado você.
